Pastor Steve came as a father and shared his heart with the single parents. He stressed the importance that you lack for nothing. God, your Father, provides for all your needs. Your children also do not lack for anything. You must be the parent God called you to be. You cannot step in the place of the absentee parent. Let God be God! He shared his own life’s examples of being a parent and confessed that he has faults and is not perfect. He has not done everything right but he said, “I am growing as Jesus leads me.”
He continued talking about the Lord’s Heritage being your children. You need to live life together and live in practical ways that allows your children to see who God is in your lives. Your children need to know your homes are a safe place to be and you do this by demonstrating it to your children. Let them see you crying out to the Lord. Let them see you in your quiet moments with the Lord. Spend time fellowshipping with them whether it is a daily devotion or other ways of living for God. This will draw them closer to you and to God. It is imperative that you teach them boundaries and have them respect your quiet time. He read from Deuteronomy 6 and explained the importance of cultivating your relationship with Father God. Covet a deep connection with the Lord and do not allow anything else distract or take time away from spending time with Him. You can allow everything else in your life to fall apart but you cannot afford separation from the Lord. When you do that, you tend to snap at your children. Your children know when you spend time with the Lord. Lead by example.
